We meet national and state standards.
  • We are aligned with AP, Common Core, and the National Council for Economic Education standards, and the National Council for the Social Studies C3 Framework.

It’s free.
  • We are a nonprofit funded by people who are passionate about education.

Why Certell makes sense for students:

Our content is media-rich, and students love it.

  • Our courses are packed with popular videos and audio files that keep their attention.

  • Our goal is to assist you in helping your students to develop critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.

    OUR HISTORY

How we got here

Image

In 2012 Dr. Fred Fransen, our founder and CEO, began working with the Stavros Center at Florida State University, which was developing a multimedia curriculum called Common Sense Economics for Life. By 2014, he had facilitated development of a parallel course in American government, and was launching a project for an American History course. To manage and coordinate these growing activities, a new organization was needed, and he founded Certell. In a few short years, Certell has gone from distributing one course to three, and from reaching hundreds of students to working with the teachers of more than 425,000 students nation-wide.

    What we believe

    Image
Students learn differently today. Throughout their waking hours, they are exposed to gigabytes of information from a multitude of sources, but they also have noticeably shorter attention spans. This is unlikely to change. As a result, both beginning and seasoned teachers face the daunting challenge of finding relevant content that students find engaging, yet does not bust the budget. Our curriculum engages students so you are empowered to do what you do best – teach. We are passionate about making it easier for you to help your students learn.

    What we’re doing

    Image
Our lessons and curriculum are developed by teachers, for teachers. Everything you need to teach is there: lesson plans, right-sized reading assignments, exams, quizzes, bell ringers, and relevant media. You can enhance your current curriculum with supplemental lessons, assignments, and materials, or teach an entire course with Certell materials, “right out of the box.” All at no cost to you.

      Frequently Asked Questions

      Image
      1)
How are you able to offer all of this stuff for free?
Certell was started by someone who believes wholeheartedly in education. Our courses are free because we are funded by people who believe that a good education is essential to the future of the next generation
      2)
Are you guys Democrats or Republicans?
Certell is non-partisan. We believe that the solution to our divided country starts with fostering critical thinking skills, and encouraging students to engage in a reasoned exploration of important, and often tough, questions. We encourage students to look at issues from new, and occasionally uncomfortable angles, so that they can appreciate different perspectives.
      3)
What new courses are you going to be offering down the road?
We hope to continue to expand our course offerings; the next one in development is World History If you have a subject you believe is important and would like to see us consider it, feel free to send us a message.
      4)
Do your courses meet national and state standards?

Yes. We align and map our course materials to AP, Common Core, National Council for Economic Education, and the NCSS C3 Framework standards. If you have any questions about your particular state, please send us a message.

      5)
Do your donors influence your content?
No. Our donors have no influence over the content, lesson plans, quizzes, tests, multi-media, or eBook materials we offer.
      6)
What’s the catch? You’re going to sell my data... right?
No. We know what it’s like to get bombarded with unwanted emails, and we have too much respect for teachers and the teaching profession to sell or give your information to anyone. Period.
      7)
I’m a school administrator. How can you help me?
We are eager to help administrators serve their teachers through school-wide adoption of our eBooks. We’re also interested in what you would like us to be developing next. Ask us how we can partner with you to provide our materials to your whole district.
      8)
Why haven’t I heard of you before?
Until the 2017-18 academic year, Certell was focused on content development. Since the fall of 2017, we have been growing rapidly, and thanks to several partnerships, strategic marketing, and word of mouth, we are now growing rapidly, and becoming the curriculum of choice for teachers and administrators across the country.
      9)
      How can I help?
Certell is grateful for support from donors, no matter what your level of giving. We thank you for helping us put common sense curriculum that works into the hands of teachers and students everywhere.
      10)
I’m not a teacher, but I’d love to get involved. How can I?
If you know teachers who would benefit from our curriculum, please tell them about Certell (word of mouth is how we grow best). In addition, we need seasonal copy editors, programmers, graphic designers, videographers, and interns to help in developing new curriculum and refreshing existing courses.
