Jan. 17 – Ben’s Big Day

Gay Lynn HillBell Ringers, Government(BR)

Ben Franklin was born on Jan. 17, 1706.

Ben Franklin was one of the leading figures of the Enlightenment, as well as the American revolution. He is credited with inventing everything from lending libraries to bifocals and discovering that lightening is electricity. He lived a very deliberate life, at least on his own account, and also left us with many sayings and principles to live by. Among those he’s inspired, is SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk.

Questions:
  1. What are some of the lessons Franklin has taught Musk?
  2. Do you agree with them?
  3. What are some hard things you’ve taught yourself? Do you think you learn better when you teach yourself, or when someone else teaches you?
  4. Franklin founded a library, in order to allow others to share their books and teach each other, and themselves, through reading groups. In what other ways do you teach yourself things today?
