Feb. 1 is National Get up Day

National Get Up day was formed in 2017, and was created by American figure skating. Personal success is determined by many things – finding one’s comparative advantage, recognizing that getting ahead requires finding ways to help others, and a great deal of practice to master the skills necessary to be productive in whatever one does. As the saying goes, “the early bird gets the worm!” As another saying goes, it is not whether you fail, but what you do after a failure that determines who you are!

Questions:
  1. Many people today want to be entrepreneurs, and seek venture capital to finance their ideas. Many venture capitalists prefer to fund people who have failed in life, over those who have never stumbled. Why do you think that is?
  2. Think of a time when you have failed. How did you react? Did you try even harder afterwards? Or did you give up and move on to something else (sort of like “fight” or “flight”!). Have you done both, in different circumstances? What made the difference?
